Who Is Behind This

The Black Swamp Horror & Oddities

Every new show asks you to take it on faith. We would rather you took it on evidence, so here is ours — including the part that is missing.

The part that is missing

We have not run a convention before. March 2027 is the first Black Swamp Horror & Oddities, and there is no previous year to show you — no gate numbers, no floor photos, no vendor testimonials from last time. Anyone who tells you otherwise about a first-year show is selling you something.

So we are not going to argue from experience we do not have. We would rather point at the things you can check yourself.

What you can check

A real company, at a real address

The event is run by Black Swamp Events Limited. Correspondence reaches a person at info@blackswamphorror.com, and it is answered by one of us, not a queue.

A confirmed venue, not a venue we are hoping for

Lucas County Recreation Center, Hall I — 2901 Key St, Maumee, Ohio 43537. Confirmed in February 2026. 22,645 square feet, 21-foot ceilings, 10-foot aisles, overhead-door load-in, one level. The Rec Center can confirm we are on their calendar; you do not have to take our word for it.

Fifty vendors who already said yes

Of 83 booths, 50 are claimed. That is the number we would most like you to weigh, because it is the one we cannot fake and the one that costs other people money to be wrong about. The count on the home page moves as applications are accepted, up or down, and it is the same number we quote to everyone.

A named partner

The Pale Horse, Toledo’s gothic bar, is our official partner and the home of after-hours programming. They are a real business with a door you can walk through — details here.

Commissioned art, not stock and not generated

The painting this entire site is built around was commissioned from Brian Lowe. Nothing on this site is AI-generated imagery, and nothing will be. For a show selling hand-made and one-of-one work, that is not a stylistic preference — it would be a contradiction.

What we are actually promising

One hall, two days, 83 hand-selected vendors. Curated, which means some applications are declined — that is the entire point and it is the thing we will not compromise to fill the floor.

We are not promising an attendance figure. No first-year organiser can honestly give you one, and any who do are guessing at your expense. What we can tell you is the capacity, the venue, the marketing we are doing, and the count as it stands.

Talk to a person

If something here is not enough to make a decision on, say so. Email us and you will get a straight answer or an honest “we have not worked that out yet”. There is a list of the things in the second category on the questions page, kept deliberately public.

Vendors: the application is open and reviewed by hand.
